May Gītā: 1.25
bhīṣhma-droṇa-pramukhataḥ
sarveṣhāṁ cha mahī-kṣhitām
uvācha pārtha paśhyaitān
samavetān kurūn iti
Here Bhishma and Drona have led all the great leaders and Krishna said: ‘Behold all the Kuru family assembled’
Bhagavad Gītā 1.25
Often this verse is missed. It’s the first time Krishna speaks. Most people assume he first speaks in chapter two. Krishna has lead Arjuna between the two sides arrayed ready for battle. He’s used the name Kuru. Both sides are descended from king Kuru. Making Arjuna’s job as a warrior more difficult. Krishna has deliberately made Arjuna waver so that he will ask for Krishna’s help and teaching. Only when asked will Krishna help. As for King Kuru, his land is where the battle is fought. And why it’s so important is that during a drought King Kuru waters the fields with his own blood and for that grizzly effort anyone who dies in battle there is guaranteed a place in heaven.
